The Freemantle Music Conservatory has established a presence in the Copper River Region through the presentation of classical music concerts, jaZZ concerts, student recitals, participation in community functions, and even radio play.
The Freemantle Music Conservatory Summer Day Camp 2008
The Earl Fosse Janet Kapadia Foundation, with the help of the Basin Bible Church, has generously funded the Freemantle Music Conservatory Summer Day Camp 2008, June 23-July 4. Classes in Beginning Strings, Music History, Musicianship, and Small Ensembles were held. 13 children attended.
The camp was a brilliant success if I say so myself; the progress made in string playing by the beginners was exceptional, and the knowledge gained of history and aesthetics was precocious, but the important steps forward were made in the musicianship class. By the end of two weeks children who previously had had no real understanding of music notation at all were reading music off the board, and singing in three parts. This type of advance in music internalZation is the just the kind of progress that will make our students stand out later in their careers.
